The Wombat State Forest has many hidden treasures for the outdoor enthusiast. The forest is home to the endangered powerful owl, is littered with historic mines and saw mill sites, and contains many of Victoria's mineral springs. Bordering the forest are the spectacular Hepburn and Macedon Regional Parks, plus the unique geological features that are Mount Franklin and Hanging Rock (Mt Diogenes).

"The Wombat", as it is colloquially known, is within an hours drive from Melbourne and, being located in the Macedon Ranges and Spa Country touring area, there are many bed and breakfasts in the area to base yourself for a quiet weekend away. For those after an outdoor experience though, the major camping areas of Firth Park and O'Briens Crossing (Lerderderg State Park), offer basic facilities.

This new map of the area, fully updated and verified, is ideal for four wheel drivers, motor cyclists, mountain bikers, horse riders, bushwalkers, as well as general tourists to the area. Whilst this map is an invaluable tool for four wheel drivers, it is also a vital resource to businesses, tourist operators and holiday makers and locals in this delightful region of Victoria.

This map is the second in Meridian Maps' 4WD Touring Guide series, covering a number of Victoria's prime 4WD areas. The Wombat State Forest 4WD Map is at an incredible scale of 1:50 000, allowing it to show in intricate detail the track networks and features of the area. The map measure 695mm by 750mm and folds to 139mm x 250mm, making it easily slipped into a glovebox or backpack. The Wombat State Forest 4WD map also complements Meridian's existing Lerderderg and Werribee Gorges Map Guide, which is at a scale of 1:35,000 and continues the coverage further south to Bacchus Marsh.
