This double-sided planisphere for the southern hemisphere is made from PVC plastic printed in black and is suitable for latitudes 25º to 45º South meaning it'll work in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina and Chile.
A planisphere, sometimes called a star wheel, is used to locate individual stars or whole constellations at any time of night on any date. It also provides an insight into how the sky changes from month to month and over the course of a year.
All you need to do is turn the wheel so the correct time and date is shown, point the planisphere to the north or south and it shows you what stars and constellations you should be able to see.
Features:
- North and South sides give greater space and clarity
- Clear, uncluttered design. Artwork by Wil Tirion
- Major stars, galaxies, nebulae and clusters in colour
- Comes with a reference guide with lists of Stars and binocular objects and planet positions for the next 5 years
- Suitable for latitudes 25º to 45º South. (Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina & Chile.)
This is a replacement for the Perth Observatory Planisphere that is no longer made.
