Our guide n° 18 follows the course of the Rhône from Lyons to the sea. Flowing from north to south, the this mighty river links central France to the Mediterranean Basin. As you go along, you will enjoy a series of superb backdrops: narrow defiles, vast plains, steep vine covered slopes and fields of fruit trees. A varied countryside, sometimes shaped by man, sometimes natural, always grandiose.

In spring with the melting snows, the current can be strong. Check before casting off, especially if you are going upstream and your motor is not too powerful. You will find helpful advice on this subject at the beginning of the guide.

The Rhône valley is often swept by a strong mistral, another constraint for boats lacking in power. To help you face up to these elements and enjoy your cruise all the difficult passages are identified and we give precise instructions for entering into ports. All bridges are shown and the navigable arch identified.

The Canal from Arles to Bouc is no longer navigable and its inclusion in the guide is anecdotic. But here are the vestiges of a navigation put in place more than 2,000 years ago by the emperor Marius. It’s worth contemplating!
