The Official Log Book is a prescribed document in which certain events must be recorded. Entries must be made at the proper time and in the prescribed manner and form.

An Official Log Book is required to be kept in accordance with Section 309 of the Navigation Act 2012. The manner in which entries are to be made and attested are specified in Marine Orders.

Entries should be made in order of date and no blank spaces should be left.

Completed Official Log Books should be retained by the ship owner for a period of at least 5 years.
