TYPES OF KNOTS
There are three main groups of knots:- Bends – for rope to rope knots
- Hitches – for attaching a rope to an object
- Loop knots – just as the name suggests

These knots are some of the most basic to master but also the most commonly used and the foundation for more complicated knots.- Overhand Knot – prevents fraying of the rope’s end
- Half Hitch – for tying around an object and back onto itself
- Half Knot – used for joining two ropes
- Square Knot – also known as the reef knot used for joining two equal sized ropes
- Figure 8 Knot – stopper knot to prevent the end of the rope sliding or to add security to another knot
- Sheet Bend – joins two ropes of unequal size
- Slip Knot – a temporary loop at the end of a rope
- Noose Knot – loop at the end of a rope which tightens when pulled
